12 Nov How to go from Part Time to Full Time
Hey everyone,
Happy Friday!
This week has been a whirlwind of emotions for me, filled with both ups and downs.
My daughter is back from spending the summer working in Greece.
She has brought her boyfriend Aldo for a ‘holiday’ in Cumbernauld—funny to think of it as a holiday destination, right?
We’ve been showing Aldo the local sights, including some of Glasgow’s favorite spots like Miller and Carter and a bit of the pub and clubbing scene at Wunderbar.
Lets get this week kicked off with some more education because we all know that’s why I write this blog.
You might be intrigued by the idea of becoming a Lash Artist and working it part time around your current job? but I want to go one step further.
How do you then go from Part time Lash Artist to a fully booked full time Lash Artist? Keep reading to find out.
Here’s a straightforward guide on how you can start small and gradually expand to full-time, building a sustainable and rewarding career.
Starting Small: The Part-Time Beginnings
Get Certified: First off, getting the right training under your belt is crucial, for example a trusted insurance company in our industry will want to see your accreditation before giving you insurance.
Our range of courses—from the Fast Track Programme to day courses—are designed to fit into your busy schedules.
These programs cover everything from lash application techniques to client management, ensuring you start off with solid foundations.
Set Up Your Workspace:
Whether it’s converting a spare room or setting up a cozy space in your garden’s summer house, creating a welcoming and professional space is key.
Consider the ambiance, this will give your client a good feeling every time they visit.
You want comfort, because who wants to lie for 2 hours and be uncomfortable?
You want Warmth, all of these create an experience for your client. Make sure its a good experience.
And you need Great lighting. Its essential, not just for the quality of your work but also for those all-important after photos.
Scheduling Clients:
Starting part-time means you need to be strategic about your bookings, this will create the boundaries you need in place from day one.
Work smarter not harder, this one is a no brainer.
Optimise your diary by booking client appointments with your availability, remember you started this business to suit you….not your client.
A lot of Lash techs will start by working evenings and weekends, as most start around another job.
Remember, consistency is crucial for building trust and reliability with your clients.
Scaling Up: Going Full-Time
Build Your Client Base:
As your skills and confidence grow, so should your marketing efforts, marketing is a huge part in owning a successful lash business.
If you’re not sure how to do marketing, I would definitely recommend investing in learning.
Position yourself as the go-to lash artist in your area. You can do this by creating educational content. This will make you stand out from the crowd as the leader in your industry.
Using platforms like social media, word-of-mouth, google and local ads will help grow a client base.
Consider unique promotions or referral bonuses to stand out and grow your clientele. Our clients love our little treat cards. They save up the points to use towards treatments, this is just an example of what we do.
Expand Your Services:
Once you’re confident doing the basics, you might want to think about adding advanced techniques to your price menu, this can generate more income and give you more offerings to your existing clients. It can also attract new clients.
You could also consider learning complementary services like brows or nails, again this could be used an upsell for white space in your diary, to clients who already know, like and trust you.
The beauty industry is HUGE, and growing your offerings can significantly boost your business.
Embrace Technology:
I would recommend a booking system from day dot, paper diaries are out and definitely more admin work.
But now is the time to really utilise your booking system.
Use the reporting on it…..whats working? what’s not?
Utilise the email marketing on it….start keeping in touch with your existing clients as often as you can.
Its easier to upsell or get an existing client back in your Salon than looking for new clients (TRUST ME ON THIS ONE)
Look into other business management tools.
Systemise as much as you can, because when you get full…Which you will….. you will need all the time you’ve got.
Consider a Commercial Space:
If you find that working from home is limiting your growth its time to take some risks.
As scary as it might feel you might want to think about going bigger.
Your very own space outwith your home.
Its a big move and a big stem step but one that could really help grow your business.
Having your own Salon can help attract more clients and separates your work from home life completely.
