HOW DO I LOOK AFTER MY LASH EXTENSIONS?
It’s important to understand that the cleaner your lashes are the longer they will last. When they are clean they are happy. Eyelash aftercare is just as important as the application process.
In today’s blog, we are going to discuss and hopefully educate the importance of lash aftercare. We will also discuss what important things you need to do to get the most out of your lash extensions.
You have invested your hard earned money paying for new lash extensions. Now you need to invest a little time to look after them for maximum retention.
Firstly, the most important part of your aftercare is cleansing and below is a quick overview of how to cleanse your lashes.
You will need a Lash Cleanser formulated specifically for lash extensions and the glue. Your Lash Artist should sell these at his/her Salon, if not they will guide you on where you can purchase them.
Directions
Step 1. Pump some of the cleanser directly on to your lashes and then gently massage the cleanser into the lashes in small circular motions using your cleansing brush.
Step 2. Rinse with clean water and pat the lashes dry using a cleansing cloth, tissue or soft towel
Step 3. Allow your lashes to dry naturally and then brush with your spooly (mascara wand)
Of course cleansing your lashes is only a small part of your aftercare, below is further advice on how to look after your beautiful new lash extensions.
here are some basic do’s and don’ts in lash aftercare:
Don’t
- Don’t get lashes excessively wet for 24 hours.
- Don’t use steam rooms, saunas or sunbeds for 48 hours
- Don’t pick or pull your lashes
- Don’t wear mascara on your extensions
Do
- Do gently wash lashes daily with eyelash cleanser, keeping the root area clean
- Do be gentle around your eyes
- Do use a spooly (mascara wand) to brush your lashes every day
- Do invest in a lash safe makeup remover (oil free)
If you follow the above tips your lashes will last longer, and your natural lashes will not suffer.
Why is lash aftercare important?
Lash artists provide aftercare advice for a reason. By cleaning your lash extensions every single day you’ll see an improvement in long-term retention, meaning your lashes will look fuller for longer.
If you don’t follow aftercare instructions you may find yourself losing lashes quickly.
Good lash aftercare will also help prevent infections. Your natural lashes are there to prevent bacteria from getting into your eyes, and lash extensions do the same job. Cleansing your lashes will get rid of everyday oils, bacteria, dirt, grime, make up and dead skin cells reducing the risk of infections.
If you return to your lash artist with dirty lashes this will eat time out of your top up appointment as they will need to spend more time trying to clean them otherwise the new lash extensions will not bond properly to the natural lashes again causing retention issues.
Some lash artists offer an aftercare pack that you can purchase at the end of your appointment. These are great as they take out the hard work and the products are there ready to use. You can also invest in a lash-safe makeup remover to help remove eyeshadow and powder that may have fallen onto the lash to help keep your lashes clean in between washing them.
When you’ve paid for a full set of lashes, you want them to last. So the importance of aftercare is so important to keeping your lashes full and long-lasting, and without causing damage to your natural lash.
