Balancing a professional life with personal time is a challenge for lots of people, particularly when running a business.

Work Life Balance As A Lash Technician

I am just back from an amazing 10-day break in Turkey.

I’ve soaked up the sun. Had fun, and completely switched off.  Most importantly enjoyed quality time with my family.

I feel energised and back to share some insights.

It wasn’t always possible for me to switch off during a holiday.

In the past, I couldn’t switch off. I still had to deal with with work calls, dealing with client messages, and staff issues. It was hard to relax.

Things have changed for the better. I believe they can for you too.

Here’s a glimpse of me living my best life on a Jeep Safari during my recent vacation:

The Journey to Work-Life Balance

Balancing a professional life with personal time is a challenge for lots of people.  Particularly when running a business.

However, becoming a Lash Technician has allowed me, and so many of our students, to establish not just a career but a lifestyle that accommodates family, hobbies, and self care.

Here’s how you can do the same:

1. Set Clear Work Boundaries

One of the first steps to achieving work-life balance is setting up a dedicated work area.

Whether it’s a corner of your living room or a spare room in your house.

Having a specific place where you ‘go to work’ helps mentally separate professional time from personal time.

This space should be organised and reserved for work only, helping you to maintain focus.

2. Schedule Smartly

Flexibility is a fantastic perk of being your own boss.

But it requires you to work smart.

Arrange client appointments during times that suit YOU and your lifestyle.

This might be during school hours if you are a Mum.

or working at times when you know childcare won’t be a problem.

This will ensure you can work uninterrupted while also being present for your family when needed.

3. Communicate Openly with Clients

Transparency builds trust.

Let your clients know your availability and any specific times you’re not working.

Keeping your clients updated on your diary helps manage expectations. It also reduces stress on both ends.

4. Prioritise Personal Time

Don’t overlook the importance of breaks.

Schedule time to step away from work throughout the day to recharge, eat and drink.

Regular breaks are important for both your physical and mental health.

It will help prevent burnout.

Personal time away from your business will also keep the passion alive for Lashing.

5. Embrace Technology

While it might seem daunting, technology can really help with systemising your business.

An online booking system is a must for anyone in our industry in my personal opinion.

This can manage appointments, send reminders to clients, and help avoid booking mishaps.

Investing in an online booking system can free up your time and reduce daily stress.

Most are very affordable and easy to set up.
